Mission Statement

The Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee exists to celebrate the unique richness, diversity, and excellence of Bay Area dance, and to foster a supportive environment for its growth and development.  To accomplish this mission, the Awards seek to:

  • honor and enhance the visibility of the achievement of Bay Area dance artists and the contributions of those who support their work
  • acknowledge the role of visiting artists in enriching our community through their collaborations with resident artists
  • promote the highest levels of artistic achievement
  • provide a historical and cultural context for dance
  • encourage the development of informed audiences

The Isadora Duncan Dance Awards Committee recognizes that the Bay Area dance community includes, but is not limited to:

  • dancers, choreographers, and other dance artists, including visual, musical, and sound collaborators and other technical personnel active in dance
  • dance educators and dance department faculty members
  • dance writers, critics, reviewers, and journalists
  • dance scholars, historians, and educators, private philanthropists, and foundations who support dance
  • directors of studios
  • producers and presenters of dance working in every aspect of movement, dance, and performance art
